Nauvoo Family Reunion! 2016

This was one of the most fun family reunions we have ever had! The pics speak for themselves. There are so many. . .I don't even know where to begin!

July 27, 2016 Most of us flew to Moline, Illinois via Gilbert, AZ
early in the AM
First stop- John Deere Factory
We took a tour inside but couldn't take any pictures. It was interesting at first but then got long and boring because we were all sleepy from waking up so early
Good looking bunch
There were just the right amount of seats outside the entrance so we had to take a photo
The men were not so happy to do it

David was probably the most interested since he's a farmer
Us outside the Maquoketa Caves
Its so cool we get to climb in there and come out the other side

There were a few climbs and slippery moments

John, Nancy, me and dad waltzing in a flat part of the caves

Nancy dipping John

Dad dipping me

The green after the dark caves was stunning!

Us walking out
Friendly basketball competition in Nancy's basement

David with Tinkerbell
We finally got to see where John works

On the drive to Nauvoo the next morning Brian was delighted to try the Gizzards at a local gas station
John fashioned a toe covering for Kelly's boot she had to wear after her foot surgery
One of our first views coming into Nauvoo
Picnic lunch out by the Visitors Center
There was a slight breeze outside so the heat was not bad

Jenny and Richard met us here

We love the shirts mom designed for all of us! On the back it says-The Story of our life and lists all of our names in the whole family.

On the Trail of Tears- look who ran into!
Stacia Hardy from BYU days

Mom and her girls

Glorious Nauvoo Temple

After dinner we wen to check out the Pioneer Games before the Nauvoo Pageant
Holy Moly did we have fun! The men pulled the women in a handcart race. They went so fast I thought one of us was going to fly out of the handcart. Jordan and Troy cheated and turned around after the 1st tree. Some of us may have wet our pants a little.

There was even a synchronized leg performance by Kelly and Nancy- recreating their performance from The Lincoln City reunion

Kelly and Troy sawing away
Kelly- bless her heart- she must have been exhausted with walking so much on a bum foot

Love this woman!

Probably the BEST day of our reunion- Doing sealings in the Nauvoo Temple. Especially John doing his Dad's Temple Work. Wow was the Spirit very strong that morning.

Me taking a photo of the beautiful clouds and sky

Brian and Jill taking a walk

I think this was something for the scavenger hunt. The swamp or something. . .

Taking a tour to see some original homes of Joseph and Emma Smith

The mansion house. . .
Idaho license plate for the scavenger hunt
homemade Root beer in a bottle- yes please!

Look at the size of these Hibiscus!

We wanted to see the Blacksmith Shop but we all got quite sleepy
The ever famous prairie diamonds
Brian dipping candles

The 2nd night we had a little program and we went through a book about Dad that mom put together
The condos we stayed at were quite nice

The Sunset was so beautiful on the temple.

Waiting for the Nauvoo Temple Pageant to start

How fitting that we saw a Scottish band marching down the Main Street!
There were several other instances that we knew Dad was with us the whole trip.

Carthage Jail- There is such a reverent feeling here

We didn't know if we should smile or not after touring the Jail. We had just gone through the experience of Joseph and Hyrum being martyred.

Our final stop of the trip we chanced a Mexican place and John handed out prizes for the Scavenger Hunt winners. US!
He gave us a beautiful replica of a Sun Stone from the Nauvoo Temple

David- wow! What a bowl!
We thought this guys name was JUAN. There was a big joke about no one and no Juan.

Richard telling us about the time he swallowed a bat. It was hilarious!

Hard at work on the scavenger hunt. We take this stuff seriously.
The flowers there are so pretty

While we waited to tour Carthage our family sang hymns. A girl was so touched and took pictures and sent them to us. She felt the spirit very strong and shared that with us.

Bagpipes!

Jenny and Richard found a plot of land that was owned by her ancestors.

Fun touring John's place of employment

We always had an empty chair in our circle. No one planned this. . .

My friend from BYU. She had a lot of roles as a performing missionary.

The Scottish characters from the pageant. They were very special!

Getting ready for the rush to save our seats. It was insane.

Had fun with the root beers
