Jaxon really is a good kid with a big heart and is sensitive and loving. Being our first child, though, he has put us through the ringer. Sometimes we are quite sure what to do with him. He's come a long way from being in 3 years of preschool. Last year in Kindergarten he did pretty well. There were a few times he got some warnings, but nothing we were too worried about.
This year has been a different story. A few weeks before Charlotte came we got a call from his teacher saying he was poking a kid with his pencil. We talked to him and gave him a punishment. We thought that was the end.
4 days after coming home from the hospital, Jordan got a message from the principal after school. He had seen Jaxon that morning for hitting a boy in the stomach. Jaxon didn't say anything about it after school. That was a horrible afternoon. In my highly emotional and hormonal state I felt like the worst mom ever and that we had lost our Jaxon and all these irrational thoughts. I ended up crying on the bed for 2 hours while Jordan drove Jaxon to the river to talk.
I think he was having a hard time adjusting to the baby.
Months later we have gotten a few more calls from the teacher and principal. He plays too rough with boys and doesn't stop touching kids or moving his hands.
Finally, Jordan and I agreed to have him tested for anything that would explain his behavior.
When I finally talked to Richard (pediatrician)about Jax he brought up ADHD. I've always thrown that out of my mind until now. Things started making sense. Putting him to bed has been such a nightmare for most of his life, he just gets so hyper before bed instead of calming down.
I made an appt. in March 2014 and after filling out a questionaire, Dr. Keith was certain we had our diagnosis. Jaxon is now on medicine and things have improved greatly within the last 2 weeks. Jordan noted how he asked Jaxon to pick up toys in the kitchen before dinner and Jaxon picked up all the toys in the kitchen. Usually he would only pick up one or two and then start playing or running off.
We are still working on some things, but are excited to see Jaxon improve now that he can focus more. We are very grateful for our families praying for us to help guide us in the right direction to help our spunky Jaxon.
