Spring break started off crazy. It was Jr. High All State weekend. The same festival that I directed last year. Chip Cheney and I took the kids over Friday night to get ready for the festival. I left Ari pretty much on her own to get the packing done for the trip. It was so nice because the Wednesday before Shelby Peck came over to watch the kids while we went on a Wal Mart trip to get everything- and I mean everything. Ice chest, snack food, pb and j’s, chips, the works. We were set for this road trip! It was extra crazy because I had two concerts that very week on Tuesday and Thursday- both were great shows- and definitely sent us into the break on a high note (literally). I’m getting off track here: Ari was left with the kids, oh yes. I was in Surprise, AZ with my jr. high and Cassie Scott (bless her little diabetic soul) joined Ari on Saturday morning to get this show on the road. I can’t even begin to explain how much she helped, and this trip would not have been possible without her. She was always helping pack things, clean the kids up, and just plain awesome! They drove right to Joanna’s and I met up with them after the concert was over. We went over that night to visit Emily and Yasser and see their sweet newborn baby Tommy! Yasser made me the best shrimp and rice dinner ever. Thanks Yass.
The next morning we went to church in some random ward in Gilbert, but we heard the most beautiful little girl voice sing Armies of Helaman- made my Sabbath. After that we were quickly on the road to Anaheim. Amidst all of the potty stops for Kodee (small bladder syndrome), weird people offering their two cents into our lives, and then a big two hour delay somewehere in the middle between Phoenix and California- we arrived to the Clarion Hotel right outside of Disneyland.
The boys were immediately swept up into the magic of Mickey.
We ran over to Bucca Di Beppo to get some yummy pasta and stuffed chicken then took a quick gander around Downtown Disney then went back to the hotel to get rested up for our big day!
Breakfast was included with our package deal. We grabbed a quick bite, then a shuttle to the park.
We arrived to the park right around 8:30 and were smart to get a stroller rental for the three days we were there. The boys’ little legs couldn’t handle much walking, so it was nice to let them take turns riding. Gemma was always in the other stroller. We were smart and brought all of our drinks, snacks, and food in an ice chest we kept with the stroller. It’s amazing to me how everyone just leaves their belonging and strollers around the park, and nobody steals anything. Only in the happiest place on earth!
We immediately went to the castle and the boys were in awe of the magic! We had the BRIGHT idea of boarding Snow White’s scary adventures because there was no line- not so smart. It kind of traumatized our little sensitive soul- Jaxon. He was a little freaked out from every other “inside” ride after that. Then we rode Peter Pan (that was a Jaxon favorite.) They loved how we rode around in little ships and loved to predict the color of the ship we would ride in. They also really enjoyed Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.
Gemma started getting into these rides by about now. After this we all rode Dumbo- Kodee LOVED this one!:)
Then we rode the Merry Go Round- another Kodee favorite.
I snapped this picture of Gemma on the carousel which might be one of my favorite pictures of all time. Kodee had to run to a bathroom, and I couldn’t find one nearby so we jogged over to Frontier land. While we were running there, we ran into Ariel. It was the first character we saw in the park, and Kodee was too shy to take a picture with her. She said she was in a hurry and had to go feed Flounder and didn’t have much patience with a stubborn 3 year old.
Fantasyland was a true fantasy! Alice and Wonderland was closed temporarily- but no worries- we would catch that later. We then headed over to Mickey’s Toon Town.
It was awesome! The boys loved walking into the cartoon world.
We rode Rodger Rabbit, Ari sat that one out with Gemma. Then we headed over to Donald’s boat. Kodee saw Pluto hanging out and was SO cute. His little high pitched “Hi Pluto! Pluto High!!! It’s me Pluto!”
On Donald Duck’s boat Kodee and his oversized head took a hard hit on the captain’s wheel- and we got the goose egg from you know where! It was HUGE! We were worried he’d be sad all day- but he got over it quick.

They saw Goofy at his play house- and met Goofy!
They were in awe! The highlight of ToonTown was definitely Gadget’s Roller Coaster- so much fun!
We then headed over to Mickey’s house and went through until we met Mickey at the end.

Right after we went over to Minnie’s. The line was pretty long and they switched Minnie’s mid- line, but after investing all that time to wait, we decided not to dip out.
Minnie's bed
We had a fantastic lunch of string cheese, pb and j’s, go gurt, and water. MMMM.
On our way to Tomorrowland we decided to stop by It’s a Small World. This was a favorite of mine when I was a kid, and it did not disappoint. The line was so short. We basically kept walking on to everything.

It was wonderful. I loved all of the additions to the ride like Lilo and Stitch, Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Nemo, etc. Gemma LOVED this ride. She kept reaching out her pudgy little arms to all of the characters with her out-of this world cute grin. That was a magical moment for her.
We watched out of our little windows and saw Nemo’s world come to life. It was great. And Gemma nursed through the whole thing.
Jaxon was still a little overwhelmed with everything and not interested in doing anything like that, but perfectly fine just watching. We had a couple of bad spills: Jaxon’s milk, and my Dr. Pepper but we were ok. Kodee slept in his stroller for about an hour, and got a much needed nap. The training was cute.
Next we got fast passes for Space Mountain and then headed over to Buzz’s Astro ride.

They loved it. Very cool and glow-in-the-darky. We ran into Summer Hendricks over there and they took Jaxon on Star Tours while we shopped in the store.

We bought Gemma cute little Mickey earings while Kodee was in heaven playing with a little robotic dog. Jaxon loved star tours, then Ari and I went and rode it together while Cassie sat out with the kids. (such a treat having her!)
After Star Tours we rode these little rocket ships that Kodee LOVED!
Then we decided it was time to head over towards Tom Sawyer’s Island to get a great seat for Fantasmic. First we stopped at the Tiki room in Adventureland and grabbed a delicious pineapple dole whip. SO good- and watched the birds sing in the room. The boys loved it and thought it was really raining outside and were worried to go out into the storm. We lost Jaxon for a second while waiting to go in the room, and I had a minor panic attack. We lost Jaxon about 3 or 4 times, but each time he was close by, just kind of in la la land. We were so lucky to have Kodee in his dog back pack with a leash, otherwise we would have been in trouble! Jaxon really wanted to ride Peter Pan again- he loved it so much. The boys were so funny. One second they would be hugging each other and loving each other, and then they’d be hitting and play fighting. You could tell it was bed time.
We grabbed a ride on Alice and Wonderland- I loved it and it reminded me of our AWESOME Halloween costumes this year.
The boys and I also grabbed a ride on the tea cups while Cassie held the baby and Ari ran to a bathroom. Speaking of bathrooms- they were kind of hard to find, but I was so proud of Kodee always letting us know when he had to go, and holding it till he got there. He’s grown up so much.
It was time to go back to Tomorrowland and use our fast passes for Space Mountain. Jaxon decided he wanted to ride it with Cassie and Ari. I couldn’t believe it, so I stayed back with Kodee and Gemma. I was worried not being with him- cause I was trying to talk him into how much he should like the rides everytime we went into the line area. He was still freaked out from Snow White. When they came back, he ran up to me and said “Daddy I LOVED it!” Cassie and Ari were both very proud of him, and they said he giggled and had fun the whole time. We used the fast pass and a rider switch pass (the coolest thing that Disney is doing now, a babysitter that waits, can go right on in the fast pass line!) Cassie waited with the youngens and Ari and I rode it again with Jaxon. So fun!

Jaxon was SO excited on Space Mountain. Look at how proud he is that he rode it! His little woo hoo's and oh yeah's and this is awesome were so cute:)
Space Mountain baby!
The next morning we had a hard time getting up, so we slept in a little bit. We decided to go to California Adventure, and the park opens at 10, so we had a little extra time to get going. The boys LOVED the hotel, and sharing a bed.
Gemma was so cute in her little crib and Minnie jammies. Cassie had her own little breakfast nook and hida bed area. That morning I was feeling a touch of the “Disney overload cranky” feeling and wasn’t very patient with people. Sorry family. The hotel restaurant only had 2 high chairs and there were literally 15 babies in that room. I told the waitress they might want to invest in more high chairs. That was my first snarky comment of the day. Cassie was a little like “whoa- don’t mess with Jordan.”
We finally got on the shuttle to go to C.A. We knew we were in for trouble when we saw the crowds headed toward that park. Oh boy- it was like everyone in CA was trying to get in there. There was a little walkway to get around all this construction that was going on- I was so excited to show this to Ari, because this is where we went on tour last year. Walking was very difficult with everything we were carrying, I’m sure we rolled over a few toes because it was so packed, sorry. A man called us a “jerk-off” when there was absolutely nothing we could do, so this didn’t help our sour attitude. We immediately got fast passes for Soarin’ over California. Then we headed over to the Hollywood backlot and rode Monsters’ Inc. It was amazing. I hadn’t ridden it last year, so it was fun to experience that with everybody! I loved the rides that ALL of us could ride, including Gemma. And she sure loved them!

We ran into a “Incredible’s” parade and then headed over to the Tower of Terror.
We talked Jaxon into riding it- BAD idea. Ari, Jax, and I all rode it, and he was TERRIFIED. More so of the lobby area and the hotel itself. It was CREEPY. He was crying as we were exiting the ride. Poor guy. That was just too much. My bad.

Cassie and I rode it again while Ari took Kodee, Gemma, and Jax into “Bugs Life” land and had cotton candy. We met up with them there, rode Heimlich’s Candy Corn coaster (boy was that a dud) there was another talkative, semi-annoying man behind us that felt like he had to comment on everything we were talking about.
I was so excited to take the fam to “It’s Tough to be a bug” next. It’s so cool to burrow down into the ant hill and become a bug for a second. Kodee did not like the 3d glasses and he HATED the spiders that fell from the ceiling. I thought they’d love it, but that was not one that either boy liked. We loved it though.
We ran into Mater and Lightning McQueen- of course we had to take this picture!:)
After this everyone seemed very tired at this point. Crowds were BEYOND packed, and we were all getting bugged. At this point we went and got fast passes for Grizzly River Rapids and World of Color color seated sections. The others went on over to Aladdin to get good seats. I ran CLEAR across the park to meet up with them at the Aladdin show. It was wonderful and very well done. Kids loved it. Gemma got a little squirrely so I held her in the back.
It was so funny because when we exited the show we ran into old BYU friends Annie and Matt Packard. So fun to catch up with them and see how we’ve grown and aged in the past 6 years.
Now we had some time to kill before our fast passes for Grizzly were ready. We decided to go and wait at Grizzly for them to be valid. I really wanted to see the new Little Mermaid ride, but we would hit that later. Cassie, Jaxon, and Ari rode Grizzly. They came back in much better spirits after getting a cool splash from the heat. Now I was in need of relief. Ari and I rode it again, and it’s hard to stay grumpy after riding that ride. I think you laugh more on that one than any other because the shocking cold splashes.
On our way back towards the pier we saw the “Scout training 'Up' course.” Kodee needed something fun because he’d had to sit out so much. He loved climbing on the rocks and the rope ladders. It was a great place for the boys to get wiggles out and for us to get away from the crowds.
The theme there was to howl like a wolf, so the boys would always do this around their mouths when they would howl.
After this we went to Little mermaid and it was AMAZING! One of my favorites of the park. I can’t believe how they’ve figured out how to bring these cartoons to life. It was like the millennium version of Peter Pan. Gemma LOVES the little mermaid. It’s definitely her favorite and whenever she sees Ariel she screams and claps her hands in delight. SO CUTE!
We decided to fork over the dough and get some good grub this night instead of waiting till we got home, so we went to the food area and got the MOST DELICIOUS bread bowls at Louie’s café with Broccolli soup and clam chowder and a really good turkey sandwich. DELISH! The boys got little kids meals that were perfect. We rested our legs and it felt good to get away from the crowds. After this we got some fast passes for California Screamin’ then rode Toy Story’s Rootin’ tootin’ roundup.
SO MUCH FUN! The boys loved shooting the targets and the game aspect. Such a great idea for a ride. I enjoyed it so much more with the boys, than last year.
California Screamin’ was a highlight. Cassie and I rode it first and sat in the front. SO MUCH FUN. We laughed a lot and tried to make the most terrified faces we could. By this point Ari had warmed up to the idea of riding it, and rode the front row with me right after. She was petrified, but pretty proud of herself afterward. She really outdid herself.

At this point it was getting pretty cold, and World of Color was about to start. Ari went over to save a place in the Goofy Flying school line while Cassie, Jax, and I went to ride Grizzly one more time. We got stuck on the ride for 15 minutes and it was pretty freezing. Jaxon was a lot more scared with it being dark, but the wait was 0 minutes to get on, so we had to take advantage.
Ari said the goofy line was way too long, and Kodee wasn’t tall enough for it anyway, so we decided to get ready for the World of Color. We waited awhile, then it finally started, but there was a malfunction and the show stopped right in the middle. It kind of ruined the magic. Kodee was on my shoulders and loved it. The color in the water is so vibrant and amazing!

We immediately went home and once again crashed. It was so cute to see the tired faces of the kids on the shuttle while we drove back to the hotel. I was worried they would be too tired to make it through another day. We went to bed immediately and woke up EARLY the next day so we’d be at Disneyland right when it opened (best decision we made on the trip).
I stayed up pretty late the night before making a list of all the things we needed to do before leaving- it was pretty lengthy and we got most of them. I feel like I could be a tour guide at Disneyland now. I knew all about Walt’s apartment above the fire house, with the light in the window. His family’s suite above Pirates of the Carribean. To look for club 33 in New Orlean’s square. We rode Indiana Jones first. It was amazing, and there was no wait!
Ari rode it again with Cassie right after we got off. I took the boys over to the Southern Bell to eat breakfast. We got the best pancakes and eggs. It was amazing how much better it tasted there than at our hotel. Jaxon got a Mickey pancake and LOVED it. It was so nice to sit across the lake from the Steamboat and Tom Sawyer’s island. Such a great start to our final day. We were all so happy!

After breakfast we went through Tarzan’s tree house. So neat- it used to be the swiss family robinson house, but the kids loved Tarzan. It’s one of Kodee’s favorites. It was so cute to hear them do the Tarzan yell.

After that we went right over to the Jungle Cruise. We had the most hilarious tour guide of all time and I was busting up in stitches. The boys were pretty worried about the fake animals- but soon warmed up to it.

Since we were right by Pirates of the Caribbean, we jumped on it. Kodee loved it, once again Jaxon was very hesitant to get into it because of the dark creepy atmosphere. He ended up loving it after all the skeletons passed:)

After this we went right over to the Haunted Mansion. We all rode it, and all loved it. Jaxon was a little scared, but definitely nothing compared to the Tower of Terror. Gemma LOVED the ghosts and graveyard. So funny.

After this we went straight over to Splash Mountain. Cassie, Jaxon, and I rode the mountain and Jax was pretty scared. He loved everything but the big drop. He said “that was way too high dad.” Ari and I rode it right after while Cassie took all the kids on Winnie the Pooh. It was so funny because Ari and I were paired up with a large amount of obese people and our boat seemed to be sinking lower then usual, it kept getting lifted up by the track. It was funny, and my legs were straddling some girls love handles that was sitting in front of me. Kind of awkward. Needless to say our splash was MONUMENTAL and we were soaked head to toe. My feet were soggy and wet all day because of it. We sure laughed a lot though.
We then headed over to the steam boat and took the Mark Twain around the island. We had ham sandwiches for lunch that I had packed in the ice chest and chips. Great way to save bucks. Great time to eat lunch on a relaxing boat ride. I was so excited to do the secret “knock on the wheel house door and ask politely to ride with the captain” but when I did it, they said the group was already selected to do that before we boarded. That’s not what I was told would happen, but oh well. We still enjoyed it. You try it next time and see if it works, but ask before you get on the boat.
After the boat, we took a raft over to Tom Sawyer’s island. This was one of the boys FAVORITE things we did. They were able to run all over the island and get their wiggles out. There were so many fun things to do- it’s every young boys dream. The caves were cool, the tree houses, the hide outs- all so cool.

Jaxon's hanging in this picture. Muscle man!

While they rode the ride, I got a yummy Mickey pretzel with cheese and a Bengal Beef bbq skewer. Both SO GOOD! Gemma also loved the pretzel.
Kodee was out cold. I loved how they each had their naps everyday, so they were able to stay happy.

At this time we did a quick bathroom run, cut through the center of the park so we could take a picture of the golden spike (the exact geometric center of the park) and the partner statue of Mickey and Walt in the center of the hub.

The whole park is in the shape of a wagon wheel, with a hub in the middle. Something else I learned on this trip. We were on our way back over to C.A. so we could ride Grizzly again, it was so hot. While we passed through main street Kodee got so excited to see Donald Duck but we didn’t want to wait in the line to get a picture with him, so I tried to snap a pic of him with Donald in front of the line. A Disney worker got pretty upset with me for doing this. Sorry, didn’t know that was a rule. It’s funny how you can see in the picture how she’s trying to block the picture from happening.

After this we rode the bumper cars in Bugs’ life again, to stall for our grizzly passes to be valid. Kodee loved the bumper cars.
Jaxon was getting hungry for popcorn so he started getting grouchy. Gemma had a blowout in her diaper that was insane- kind of a stressful moment. She was taking medicine for an ear infection, so she had some diaper doozies.
We rode Grizzly again, this time Jaxon had a poncho and was good to go. Everyone on our boat thought he was so cute and he got very embarrassed.

We really bonded with that group. Ari took the younger kids on Ariel again.
Then Cassie took them on it again while Ari and I rode Grizzly again (I rode it 4 times, but it’s one of my faves!)
Cassie's brother proposed to his wife on this very spot. She and Kodee reenacted it!
We saw some amazing photos of the park in the museum at the front then we settled in for the parade.
This might have been my favorite moment of the trip. Kodee was enraptured by the characters. Everytime one would go by he would do his cute “hi! HI!” but it wasn’t until Rapunzel came that he was smitten. She looked right at him and blew him a huge kiss and winked. He looked like his breath was taken away and couldn’t believe it. I swear he had electricity jolted through him. I pulled an “ultimate sappy dad” and got all teary eyed. I can’t believe I cried, but it was just so sweet to see my 3 year old so happy in Disney heaven. This is what it’s all about! It made the trip all worth it! Gemma of course squealed with delight when Ariel came by- I foresee an Ariel bedroom in her future.

Immediately following the parade, Ari ran to grab some pasta while Cassie and I took the kids on the storybook ride in Fantasyland and the casey jr. train. They LOVED THEM! Kodee had to ride the merry go round one last time. He says that was his favorite ride, the horses.

We met up with Ari, got fast passes for Space Mountain for one last ride at the end of the night, and then found places to watch the fireworks.
We were on the side of the castle by Tink’s Hollow, and the boys thought they discovered a magical land because nobody else was there as they were all getting ready for the fireworks. It was so cute how excited they were to show mommy their special secret land they found.
We about gave Cassie a heart attack because we ran and grabbed ari and took off, and she thought something was wrong. She was with a sleeping Gemma. Then we watched the fireworks, RIGHT UNDER THEM, and were very close to tinkerbell. The only problem was that we were right by the tallest trees ever so a lot of the view was blocked. Kodee was on my shoulders and leaned over when the lights were exploding in the air and whispered in my right ear “I love you Daddy.” It was such a precious moment.
After the fireworks we went back to space mountain and noticed there was a 0 minute wait for Autopia, so the kids rode that with the girls while I waited with Gemma. She was OUT! I rode it again with Kodee, and he was so cute, but getting kind of weird because he was tired.
Ari, Jax, and I did one last Space Mountain- loved it. Then Cassie and Ari rode it again, in the front row. They said it was the best experience ever! I had the boys in the arcade, and that was another highlight for them. It was then time to say goodbye to D-land. And we were ready. We’d done everything! 3 days was perfect!
We swung by the huge Disney store in downtown Disney and Cassie got some souvenirs. The boys were WASTED and tired, but we made it home. Gemma slept the whole way.

They wanted these hats so bad- but a pictures just as good:)

We slept in the next morning. I took the boys down for a quick dip in the pool- that was another highlight. The weather was amazing! A little cold the first day, but the second two were awesome. I then had to find a place to get the outlets in our van fixed because both fuses had broken, and I couldn’t figure out how to find the ones that needed replaced. It was a quick fix at the dealership. We had lunch at Ihop, then we were outta there! The ride home was great. The boys traveled like a dream and Cassie helped so much. It was so nice to have the DVD players working. Kept the boys entertained! Thanks again Nee Nee!
We stayed at the Dairman’s that night, got in around 10:00. The next morning Ari and I capped off our break by going and seeing the first showing of the Hunger Games at the nearby AMC theater. It was amazing! One of my all time favorite movies for sure. Did not disappoint in the slightest- I thought it followed the book great- and the actors were INCREDIBLE! Well done Hunger Games!:)
Now we’re home and it’s time to get back to real world. Now to decide what we are going to be singing this next quarter. . . .:)
