We flew to Detroit and had a layover. While trying to get the boys in their clothes Jaxon left the bathroom with no underwear and just shorts. While I was finding said underwear a man called my attention to one of the boys. I thought he meant Kodee because he was walking off. Nope! He pointed at Jaxon on my other side just as he was bent over pulling down his shorts, mooning the guy. I was a little embarrassed as I grabbed Jaxon and took him away, but I was laughing inside. That's funny stuff! The last hitch was getting some food for the flight. I went upstairs and took Jaxon to get food. I got Frosty's for both of us. Jordan went after I did which was right when they started boarding. We didn't realize it was a small plane. Jordan came back with two Frosty's as well. No lids and we had to board the plane with all of our stuff. Oops! Then we found out we were not sitting together at all. We squeezed onto the plane to find I was toward the front, Jaxon in the back in front of Jordan. Thankfully a nice man gave up his seat so Jax and Jordan could sit together. I had fun juggling a sandwich, 2 melting Frosty's and Kodee in my lap. Next time we fly=NO Frosty's!
It was cool because we flew out over one of the Great Lakes for about 15 minutes. I knew they were huge from Geography class, but wow! That was a lot of water! In no time at all I could see the trees and green landscape of the beloved NC. It was an overcast day and when we left the plane we knew we were in for some sweating. Poor Jordan, humidity and he are not good friends. My dad came and picked us up and we headed to my uncle's house for the night.
The boys loved seeing the house. They explored and pulled out all the toys they could for the next hour. After making a fine meal of frozen pizza and fresh homegrown squash (Thank you Keith!) we pretty much headed to bed. It was only 9pm which is 6pm AZ time. All except Jaxon. He was so excited to be in a new place plus he found a flashlight. He LOVES flashlights! I put him in bed hoping he would play a little bit and then fall asleep. A few minutes later I hear him playing somewhere besides his room so I cross the hall to hear him in a locked bedroom playing. I try to get him to open the door. No dice. I go to his room and it's also locked. He's a smart little guy! I'm so tired that I beg my dad to find something to unlock the doors to get Jaxon. After the escape I put Jaxon back in bed. A little while later I wakeup because Kodee's screaming. Sweet little Jaxon woke him up. That's it, it's go time. I lay with Jaxon in his bed and end up squeezing my legs over his and holding his arms as tight as I can. At first he laughed because he thought it was a game, then it turns into a challenge and finally turns into screaming because he's full out mad that he's being held so tightly. I finally let go because he's given up and we go to sleep. A half hour later I'm woken up by Jaxon crying for some weird reason. I leave the room and he goes down again thankfully.
At 6:30am he comes into our room saying," I want to go to ocean." It was cute how excited he was, but Jordan and I looked at each other thinking "how early is it?" 3:30 AM our time!!! We did get up because we had a 4 hour drive to the beach. The best part of the drive was stopping at a peach stand on the side of the road for some really good homemade peach ice cream. It was even better because it was only 9am. Yummy breakfast! We got to my uncle's beach house right at lunch time. It's so fun because you drive along and there are all these trees and you can't tell where you are and then you turn onto a bridge and as you ride on you go up and all of a sudden there's the ocean! It's pure awesomeness! Kodee didn't stop saying, 'water! water!" in his cute little raspy, breathy voice for the rest of the trip. We ate lunch as fast as we could so we could get to the beach. I love this place because you cross a road and a pathway and there's the beach. We had private beach too. The sand was perfect, the water was warm and refreshing and exquisite!
Jordan took Jaxon out pretty far to ride the boogie board. Jordan said Jaxon was fearless. They put him on by himself and pushed him on the waves and he rode to my Uncle Keith. Sometimes he fell off and would come up from the water and say, "Again!" He had so much fun. The only thing is he got a board burn on his tummy which irritated him the rest of the day. During the hottest part of the day we went back inside to rest. We love these pictures because the boys started holding hands.
After dinner we went back out and that's where we buried Jordan in the sand. A first for both of us. He requested a manly man with lots of abs to be sculpted out of the sand, but somehow it turned into a hefty mermaid. My cousin, Kristen and Keith, shaped the tail and it was the best mermaid tail ever. We still need to get those pictures so you have something to look forward to! Jordan did great until the sand got to him and he started itching. I reached into the sand to help scratch him a few times. That was interesting. Apparently it just made the itching worse. After Jordan couldn't handle anymore we went on a walk to the ice cream shoppe. (It was a very windy day!) That place has some creamy goodness! I didn't really like the selection, but it was fun watching the boys get cream faced! Jordan loved his Red Velvet Cake Ice Cream.
We went back to the house to go ghost crabbing with everyone. We got flashlights and nets and headed to the beach. We walked down some while shining flashlights towards the water, but we could not find a single crab. That was a first. After sometime we decided we wouldn't see any so we headed back disappointed. The boys were pooped after that so we headed to our hotel. Jaxon was asleep the minute we left. We all were asleep very fast and slept well all night.
After a wonderful continental breakfast we were on the road for Myrtle Beach! It's about an hour's drive from where we were on Holden Beach. It was crazy once we got to North Myrtle Beach. The touristy shops and mini golf places were spaced about every two minutes apart. Dad signed us up for a nice beach front hotel; we couldn't check in until 3, but they gave us a space to change our clothes so we could go swimming. The hotel had about 10 or so different pools, baby pools and a lazy river. It was so much fun! Jaxon loved it and swam for hours! Keith and his family joined us about lunch time so we headed off to Olive Garden! Jaxon whined for the first little bit until the salad came. All he wanted was toast with peanut butter on it and the breadsticks did not suffice so he laid on the floor and went to sleep. He must have been super dooper tired because he's never done that before! We had a fabulous lunch together and went back to the hotel. Now it was Kodee's turn to be tired. He went right down for a nap. Both Jordan and I ended up staying with him in the room and we were out before we knew it. Keith and Glenda took jaxon for more swimming with their kids. We said we'd meet up after Kodee's nap. Well, 2 1/2 hours later we finally got up. It was one trip of exhaustion- but lots of fun too!
We headed back to the pools to see that Jaxon had attached himself to my 9 year old cousin Katelyn, and they swam together for the whole time we were sleeping and for the rest of the night for that matter. We also got more beach time in. Earlier in the day it was so crowded and the seashells were out of control that it wasn't as fun as Holden Beach. It was better when everyone was at dinner.
Our wonderfully "teal" room
Our view from our room.
Kodee (what a cutie!)
My dad
The night didn't end up like we wanted because we couldn't find jaxon's shoes and the restaurant, Friendly's, was the slowest thing ever. We didn't leave until 10:30pm. The waitresses were pretty terrible and Jordan almost lost his iPhone- he about had a heart attack. The thing that made us the maddest was the Jaxon's ice cream cone wouldn't come out at the end of his meal. It sat there for like 15 minutes. So frustrating. My uncle's family had to leave then and we didn't get to play games ever. That was a bummer. But, we still had fun with them. Jaxon didn't want Katelyn to leave! That night while sleeping Jaxon would sit up and scream everytime he heard my dad snore. Poor guy.
The next morning we were up bright and early once again and decided to do some putt putt golf before taking off to Greensboro. The place opened at 9:00 am so we were there after an awesome Chick-fil-a breakfast! The golf place was called "Mt. Atlantica" and it was all based off of Atlantis. That was great cause Jaxon's really been into that cartoon lately. We decided to take the "Mystical Lakes" course, rather than the cave course- which was a mistake, cause we should have stayed inside as much as possible. It was SO HOT! The boys loved it at first, but then got hotter and hotter, and then pretty whiney and irritable. I beat Jordan by 3 points- which was amazing because he had 3 hole-in-ones at individual holes. Guess he got pretty lazy on some of the others:) The last hole was one that if you made it you get a life time of free golfing- neither of us made it. It's gotta be fixed:)
The last hole. . .
Then it was on to Yum Yum's in Greensboro for an awesome lunch of chili dogs and ice cream. Yum Yum's is one of a kind. It's a bright, hot pink hot dog, with chili, mustard, slaw, and onions. Jordan and Dad like it without onions, I like mine with just ketchup, and the boys like the hot dog just torn into bite sized pieces. All of us were happy. And the ice cream is to die for. I think that was our favorite part of the trip, was all the ice cream.
The boys saying bye to pa pa at yum yum's.
Finally we got to the airport, and we were stressing for time. It ended up being an hour and a half delay there, because the flights were grounded going into Atlanta. FINALLY, we boarded for at Atlanta, but when we got there, had a 6 hour delay. It was insane, our orinal 7ish flight didn't fly out till after midnight. The flight was changed to three different gates, and the passengers had to keep changing terminals. Everyone was so frustrated. It was cute. . .Jordan set up a movie from the boys and I looked over and there were about 4 or 5 other kids creeping up to watch the movie with them on his lap top. We made friends!:)
After taxiing on the tarmac for about an hour, we were ready to take off- it was then the flight attendant came on the speaker saying there was a distressed passenger and we had to turn around to let her off. All of us were livid! Especially because we knew this woman had been drinking up a storm during the layover- we overheard her bragging about it while we were waiting at the gate. Guess the alcohol caught up with her, and now we all had to suffer because of it. With her off, we were ready to take off (now about 12:30) it turned into a red eye, but it was nice because they let us choose from any of the food items for free. Pretty nice- and the boys pretty much slept the whole way home.
Gratefully Kim and Jim let us crash at their place, because there was no way we could make it on home. It took us about two or three days to fully catch up from our jet lag- hopefully we're back to normal! Man- I live for these summer trips! So much fun- and AHHHHH the memories:)
