Thanks to our wonderful neighbors they watched Jax and Kodee so I could go with Jordan and his ten kids to Regionals. We woke up way early so we could be in Tuscon by 9am. The drive there was uneventful. (That's good because I was nervous about driving a 15 passenger van with 12 teens in it.) Thankfully the choir kids rode with me and Jordan was stuck with the orchestra/band kids. They weren't that nice I hear. The kids had a way hard Creole song so they spent their time listening to the practice CD trying to sound out the language. It was funny! From 10am on the kids were in rehearsal. For us adults there is a lot of sitting around, but I had fun being in the choir scene again. It was also fun watching this other choir teacher from the region. Jordan had mentioned to me earlier that he likes to talk to him at these things. That's how he started out until he met me. Even then the aforementioned teacher kept talking to just Jordan and ignored me like I was just a girl sitting next to Jordan. After a while though he finally walked away like he finally figured out we were married. Bless his too tight of girly jeans heart!
After lots of rehearsals for that day they were released at 6. Olive Garden called our name. And they did not disappoint! Back at the hotel everyone wanted to try out the "heated outdoor pool." Most kids tried it for a while, but in the end we were all in the hot tub. There were two couples already in there, one of which we apparently kicked out after they started singing "Christian music." One older man eagerly joined us saying he heard from a couple down the hall that kids were singing in the hot tub.
At lights out I had fun going into every room making sure the kids stayed in their rooms and they behaved. Morning came way too early; I get more sleep having two small boys then I did on the trip. Breakfast, rehearsals, a director's meeting which is very interesting, more singing, lunch, rehearsal on stage, Jordan and I fall asleep, sitting around, and finally the concert. The choir did great! Band was pretty good and by the time the orchestra was playing I was fast asleep in my chair. I think someone sitting close by me was annoyed that I was sleeping! Did I care? NO! We had to wait til about 8pm to eat dinner. That makes for one grumpy me! So i didn't enjoy the ride home. I was very glad to be home to my little boys who I know how to talk to. (Even though there's usually a little response from.)
After Regionals was concert prep time. Jordan asked me to play a few songs for the middle school and high school. That's always fun getting the songs a week before the concert. Love you, Jordan! With mighty practice every night they turned out all right. The weekend before the concerts Jordan went to ACDA which is a convention for choral directors from the Western region. They have sing alongs, lots of concerts, reading new music together, and interest sessions on becoming a better teacher, teaching boys when their voices change, etc...... Jordan really wished I could have gone (I went with him two years ago in Anaheim) but he did listen to great choirs, and get lots more choir music. That's the best part. And then he comes home and we sing through all the music together and choose what he's going to do, for which choir, and which concert.
Concert week was pandamonium in our house. OUr poor boys had about 6 different babysitters between that week and the previous week. We went to the high school several times to practice and the house became very messy! Tuesday night was Middle School. There's was so fun because they did the new Fireflies song and they did a dance with glow sticks in the dark. It was awesome! Wednesday was the high school concert. I'd say the best part was the very end when Taste of Sound had their show set. They sang "Eye of the Tiger" and wore torn orange shirts over black ones for a cool effect. They did great on the choreography. For "Will it go round in Circles" though that dancing was the best-it was full on choreography and I thought they did so well with it!
There is always a huge sigh of relief when the concerts are over. We finally got our house back in order. Just barely. I did tons of laundry and cleaning right before the weekend-Spring Break babay! Thursday and Friday morning were huge packing days. We headed out Friday evening.
Before we left I went and got my hair colored with all sorts of colors and got bangs! We didn't post about it earlier because it was a surprise for my family. I love the change!
