The Golden Birthday

Wow. . .turning 27 on the 27th is pretty cool! It was especially special because Ari and the boys flew in from Utah right before so we could celebrate. Like Ari said Jaxon was kind of mad at me when he saw me in the airport. I ran to the stroller and he just looked down at the ground with a look that said, "I can't believe you left me!!" It wasn't long before he was reaching up for me to hug and hold him and let me know all was forgiven.

We ended up celebrating Father's Day and my birthday together, since I had to go back up to Eloy to continue working on David's Potato Farm. Ari had some cute pictures taken at Kiddie Kandids. I couldn't believe what the photographer was able to catch:

Of course notice the choo choo!

It was so nice because whenever we take the boys I feel like it's all up to me to get them to smile and look happy for the pictures. It was nice to have that all done without me knowing she even went and did it. I guess I'm not as important for those picture taking events as I thought. She also made me a really cute paper tie with Jax and Kodee's faces on it.

For the birthday side of things Ari got me some great Buckle shirts and a nice silver fossil watch. She really got me there, cause I had NO idea what she was planning on doing. It was wonderful to be surprised! The sad part was having to turn right around and leaving to go work another two weeks in Eloy. But we made it, though it was tough!

You can tell the boys and I had a blast!

My actual birthday was the next Saturday, so I met some friends (Chad and Emily) at the mall to see a movie. It was funny because all of our spoused were busy studying, or out of town, and we all met up, it was like we were teenagers hanging out. I loved it!

Jim and Kim were so nice and invited me over to their house on Sunday for a Birthday Brunch, games, and a movie. I had a blast with them, and I can't get those nutella/banana/strawberry crapes out of my mind. Seriously Kim, they might be the best thing I've had for breakfast- EVER! It just might make me a breakfast eater, which has been a lifelong struggle.

After my fun day with them, it was back to the farm life. I had about one more week to go. Every time I called Ari at home I could tell she was counting the minutes and hours for my return. Poor girl, she did a good job of pretty much being a single parent this summer. It's so nice to be needed.

Right before my big return home I had car trouble. I got stranded in the Costco parking lot on a grocery run for the boys I was providing food for all summer. I had all kinds of dairy products and frozen things in the car, and there I was in 110 degree weather with my van overheating in the red!! I was beyond livid. Luckily I thought of a auto repair shop we had used two years ago that was a couple of miles away. After coaxing the van, with the AC and windows rolled down I made it to the shop. (Just after it was closed.) Luckily I caught one of the owners, and he agreed to work on it, and not only that, give me a ride back into Casa Grande! How lucky was that? I was carless for the last 3 days of my job up there, but David was so nice to pick me up every morning and take me back to my hotel at night. It made me feel like a kid relying on a parent to take me everywhere. Thankfully David and Kase let me take their trucks out on the grocery and errand runs I neeeded to make.

My job this summer was taking care of the food needs and accommodations of the gringo teenagers David had working at his Potato Shed. It was a lot of work, I couldn't believe how disgusting and unkempt those teens can be. It makes me grateful to live with such a clean spouse! I would stock the cupboards with groceries throughout the week and keep the kitchen and bathrooms as clean as possible. I also helped out in the shipping office by getting the truck drivers their paper work and sending them on their way. David also envisioned a GREAT program for the boys. He got them each a copy of the book "The 6 Most Important Decisions You'll Ever Make." He had them study the book throughout the week in their "off" time, which wasn't much. Then I designed a test of 8 sections based on the book. If they passed a section, they got 40 dollars. It was a great way for them to add a bonus to the end of their work experience while learning to prepare and make decisions for their future! Brilliant idea David. I'm glad I could be a part of it. It was nice to bring in my teaching skills to the job. I'm so grateful for a summer job that was able to help sustain us monetarily through my school break. Thank you so much Joanna and David!!!
