Jaxon's near death experience

You know those moments where time just stops and everything seems to go into slow mo? That's exactly what happened here.

Because I was home sick yesterday, and all feverish from my ear infection, we thought it would be fun to invite our good friends over, the Thompson's, and enjoy an evening swim at our townhouse pool. They have a little 2 year old Gracie, and Jax and her are becoming good friends. I was pretty out of it but trying to make the best of an opportunity where we get to hang out with friends (cause that doesn't usually happen during potato harvest.) Jaxon eventually wondered out of the pool and started pushing his stroller around the side of the pool. We were still watching him pretty close, but all of a sudden he was completely on the other side of the pool and right by the edge of the deep end. All of us were in the shallow end. This is when the slow mo started. First the stroller went in and then his little body followed right after.

Ariana was closest, and let's face it, I was not on my best lifeguard game being that my body was delayed in every action with my ear infection. Ari started swimming towards him, but it didn't feel like she was moving, and I was trying to swim around her to get to him. It was one of those decisions where you ask yourself, "self, should I take the time to jump out of the pool, run over, and then get back in to get him? Or just swim over." All of us just swam over.

The amazing part was that Jaxon kept himself afloat. He was thrashing his little arms and legs and had that look of terror in his eyes, but he was trying to get up above the water. Also, it appears that he held his breath, which is AMAZING, because I've been trying to teach him that and he's never really seemed to grasp the concept. He wasn't choking or coughing too much, he just wanted to be held and coddled afterwards.

Our friend Chad was so funny. His reaction was to throw Gracie to the wayside and go after Jaxon. Mind you, Gracie can't swim either, and when he remembered that he had to save his daughter :) Ha ha, we had a good laugh at that.

Immediatley after the whole situation, Jax was ready to go. He went and sat in his stroller and pushed it over by the exit door and kept looking at us like, "take me home." He went right to bed when we got home. It was too much excitement for him to handle.

Jordan, that is so scary! I am so glad that this situation had a happy ending! I'm sure you had fervent prayers of thanks after that!

That reminds me of the time that Pret promised my nephew that he would catch him at the bottom of the slide and then forgot until we all saw Matthew land in the water and bob back up and wondered what was going to happen next. Luckily, Pret's lifeguarding skills kicked in quickly and with one long dive and a few strokes, he had babe in arms.

Glad you had the experience and skills despite being ill.

Grace might be emotionally scarred if we ever tell her that Chad was going to sacrifice her for Jaxon.
