Always read the small print!

So Jaxon was having terrible nose issues last week. His nose was running so bad, and he started having really sore nostrils and every morning he'd wake up and have his nose just completely caked over. It was so sad and he wouldn't let us touch it because it was so sensative. I went to CVS to see if there was something I could get to help out the situation. I got some saline drops and I should have stopped there. The next thing I saw was a neti pot kettle nasal flush. The label said for 6 and under consult a doctor. I thought, yeah right, it'll be fine. So I got it.

We went home and I set up the whole neti pot kettle flush. As I was preparing this I thought, this is pretty intense, so being the good dad that I am, I decided that I should try it out first just to make sure. I'm so glad I did, because it was horrible. There was no way I was going to let Jaxon do this. You had to be very careful to breathe through your mouth and not your nose. One side of the kettle went into one nostril and then you poured it through and the solution came out the other side. Afterwards you are to "gently" blow your nose. As I was gently blowing my nose my ears started hurting super bad. I took out the direction sheet again and it said "some people have ear tubes that are too wide and fluid can leak in and cause ear infections. If this is the case, discontinue use immediately." Well, my ears hurt but I didn't think much more about it. Two days later (Tuesday the 10th to be exact) my body just shut down on me. I got a fever and my whole body just ached and ached. I went home from work and crashed and had the weirdest dreams and kept waking up with sweats and chills. The next day I called in to work and then made a doctors appointment. Diagnosis: ear infection. RRRRRRRGGGH! That was totally brought on by myself with my own dumb mistake of not reading the small print. Now I'm miserable and on antibiotics. I'm finally starting to feel better. The only blessing from this was that: because I called in sick yesterday I was able to get a lot of things done that I haven't been able to do like get an eye appointment so I can get new glasses and stop wearing the ones Jaxon broke that are held together by tape. That in and of itself was a huge accomplishment. I'll write more about my job later so you'll understand the intensity of it.

Until next time: read the small print!!!

I enjoyed reading your article on nasal irrigation. Recently my doctor recommended Nasopure, a nasal irrigation system refered to as the modern neti. I have tried both the neti and Nasopure and have found Nasopure far superior. I dont have to bend and twist like the neti and Nasopure seems to give a much more effective flush because it uses self controlled pressure instead of gravity. The angled Nasopure bottle allows for you to stand straight up while using it. Also, the salt packets that comes with the product is much cheaper and seems more effective than that of the neti. I use one salt packet for about a week in the shower with Nasopure while the neti uses atleast one packet per use. Their website www.nasopure.com is very informative too and compares different nose washes on the market.
