Enter. . .the Teaching World

Ok. . .for all of my friends out there who are teachers, I give you MAJOR props! Teaching is exhausting and pretty darn hard. Here I thought I'd have all these little angels just begging to sing. Boy was I wrong. So far, I feel that most of my days I've had to prepare for a huge fight, and how to gain control of the classroom. Are kids really this disrespectful? What is our world coming to? I shudder to think what Jaxon's peers will act and talk like when he's in Jr. High. Don't get me wrong, I have MANY great kids who really want to learn. But boy do those bad apples spoil the bunch. I have had to make many calls home to parents so far. And the parents hardly ever follow through and produce results. (I'm sure those kids' parents are sick of getting phone calls anyway.) One things for certain. I have learned to LOVE my weekends. So until next weekend I say, "carry on!"

Be MEAN!! Seriously, if you are hardcore on the rules to begin with, the kids will learn they can't walk all over you and they won't. And if something isn't working, don't be afraid to tell the kids that and then let them know that you are trying something new. Finally, go talk to more experienced teachers, they really do have some good ideas that can help you. God bless and save us all!!

thinking back to my middle school choir teacher, she was really tough, but seriously one of my best and favorite. i agree, be mean in the beginning so they know who's boss and how things work, and then once it gets a little further in, lighten up a little. good luck!

I can't say I envy you, Jordan. You are BRAVE!!!! I echo everyone else: The best teachers I had didn't let their students walk all over them. They demanded respect and in return respect was shown to them.
