All-State weekend was a blast. I was so happy to take my 4 all-staters. The songs were amazing and I had the wonderful opportunity of directing one of them in the warm up session, the first night the choir got together. It was incredible to be in front of 200 eager high school choir students who were so responsive to every little thing my hands did while conducting. I was pretty nervous, but after I did it, I knew that I'm in the right profession. There's nothing else like it in the world.
This is the song I got to conduct: I Thank You God.
They also did this song, Mise rei rei, and the director has exclusive rights to this song. Every time they sang this, I got chills!
The kids were great all weekend. I really didn't have much to worry about with them. They get along well and are good friends. Couldn't have asked for a better, first-time being the director, All-state experience.
