Big Boy Bed

It's that time. We've been debating about doing this since Christmas Vacation (that's when Jaxon first started climbing out of his crib.) It was pretty amazing to watch. I hid out by the door one day and watched. It was like a mini Jack Bauer in the making. He literally pull himself up with his arms up over the edge. The upper body strength of this kid is amazing because the edge of the crib was over his shoulders. Anyway, he kept doing this and we worried about him doing it in the middle of the night and hurting himself.

When we got back from Utah he stopped doing it. . .until this week. He's back in crib escape mode so I made it my mission today to convert the crib to a toddler bed. We'd lost the pieces to do it in our moves so I had to go to Home Depot and purchase some new parts. When Jax woke up from his nap he was so excited to help change the crib to a bed. He loved using the screw driver.

After dinner we made up his bed, and we also received a green recliner from my mom and dad. So the new "night night" routine is bath, then story in the "night night chair" then prayer kneeling by the bed and then. . .bed. This is the part that I do not know how it is going to happen. I got a night light for a book and sat by his bed for a half hour reading and he just kept trying to slither out or plop his pacifiers (he likes to sleep with 3 and interchange them, yes he even does this in his sleep. . .weird.)

I finally used my feet to keep him in the bed and before I knew it he started tickling and grabbing my toes and playing little piggies. I decided the whole "guarding him and trying to get him to sleep" is not working so I left. I made sure he can't turn on the light now he's banging on the door, calling our names, and saying uh-oh. Man. . .this is gonna be tough. I'm glad we're doing this over spring break.

P.S. This red car that we got him for Christmas is still his favorite. Lately he wants to put it on EVERYTHING, beds, tables, piano benches, chairs, you name it. Then try and sit on it despite the danger.

Good Luck with the transition! He will get use to it hopefully soon for your sake. He is such a cute little boy. I can't believe how big he is getting. That is funny he fell asleep in his high chair. I think Lucy has FOMO syndrome too :)

Wow, I know the transition will be a headache, but I chuckled while reading about your experiences. Maybe because that will be me someday. Good luck. Jaxon is sure cute.

I think it took Christopher about a week to get used to it. but then he went back to taking naps and going to bed ok.

Ugh- You have no CLUE how badly I'm NOT looking forward to this part. G doesn't climb out of his crib or anything, but he's just so dang HUGE that I'm afraid he'll OUT GROW it before he'll climb out.

PLEASE keep us posted on how it's going. Did you guys let him sleep on pillows in his crib BEFORE you set up a big boy bed, or how did you work that?
